New Circle Road Exit Ramps Fully Reopening Tonight at Leestown, Ahead of Schedule

Traffic will be open to both left and right turns to and from Leestown Road

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sunday, Nov. 23, 2025) – Construction crews remain ahead of schedule and plan to fully reopen the New Circle Road (KY 4) on and off ramps at Leestown Road (U.S. 421) tonight, nearly two weeks early. Right turns at the ramps opened on Nov. 16, and now left turns will open by 9:30 p.m. tonight, Sunday, Nov. 23 – returning the ramps to full functionality in time for Thanksgiving holiday travel.

Tonight, Sunday, Nov. 23

  • By 9:30 p.m., all New Circle Road on and off ramps will reopen for left turns to and from Leestown Road. Ramps remain open to right turns.
  • Traffic on Leestown Road remains one lane each direction, and has shifted to the outside lanes while the inner lanes are closed.
  • Further traffic changes will be announced as work progresses.

The temporary New Circle ramp closures helped crews work more quickly to safely widen the interchange and expedite its conversion to a safer Double Crossover Diamond configuration – which will also allow Leestown Road to return to two lanes each direction by mid- to late-December, reducing traffic congestion for remaining construction work.

The work is part of the New Circle Road widening project. When complete in 2027, the project will increase the capacity and operation of New Circle Road and the Leestown interchange to improve safety and travel times in this rapidly-growing area of Lexington. Find more information online at DrivingLexingtonProgress.org.

All work/closures are scheduled on a tentative basis, and subject to change depending on weather conditions, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.

District 7 includes: Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Fayette, Garrard, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Montgomery, Scott and Woodford Counties
