New Circle Road Exit Ramps Partially Reopening at Leestown TONIGHT, Sunday, Ahead of Schedule
Traffic temporarily limited to right turns only to and from Leestown Road
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 16, 2025) – Construction crews worked around the clock for the past week to get the New Circle Road (KY 4) ramps to Leestown Road (U.S. 421) partially reopened ahead of schedule. Originally slated to open Nov. 26, the right lanes of all four ramps will now reopen tonight, Sunday, Nov. 16, by 5 p.m.
Drivers should note that turning movements will be temporarily limited to right turns only to and from Leestown Road as contractors switch Leestown Road traffic from the inside (far-left lane) to the outside (right lane). The ramps are expected to fully open soon, which will be announced.
Tonight, Sunday, Nov. 16
- By 5 p.m., the right lanes only of all New Circle Road on and off ramps will reopen.
- Turning movements temporarily limited: Right turns only to and from Leestown Road (right in, right out).
- Further traffic changes will be announced as work progresses.
The temporary ramp closures helped crews work more quickly to safely widen the interchange and expedite its conversion to a safer Double Crossover Diamond configuration – which will also allow Leestown Road to return to two lanes each direction by mid- to late-December, reducing traffic congestion for remaining construction work.
The work is part of the New Circle Road widening project. When complete in 2027, the project will increase the capacity and operation of New Circle Road and the Leestown Interchange – which will be converted to a Double Crossover Diamond interchange – to improve safety and travel times in this rapidly-growing area of Lexington. All work/closures are scheduled on a tentative basis, and subject to change depending on weather conditions, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.
District 7 includes: Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Fayette, Garrard, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Montgomery, Scott and Woodford Counties
