REMINDER: Temporary New Circle Road Ramp Closures at Leestown Begin TONIGHT at 10 p.m.
Nov. 9-26 closures expedite project, return Leestown to two lanes each direction
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 9, 2025) – New Circle Road (KY 4) ramps to and from Leestown Road (U.S. 421) will close temporarily in Lexington beginning tonight, Nov. 9, at 10 p.m. through Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 5 p.m. Drivers are urged to follow signed detours and plan ahead while traveling the next three weeks.
During the temporary on and off ramp closures, signs will direct all traffic to the following detours:
- To Leestown Road from New Circle Road: Use Georgetown Road Exit 8 (U.S. 25) to Citation Boulevard to Leestown.
- To New Circle Road from Leestown Road: Take Citation Boulevard to Georgetown Road to New Circle.
- Through traffic on Leestown Road to and from downtown Lexington remains in the far-left lane.
The closures will help crews work more quickly to safely widen parts of New Circle at the interchange and expedite its conversion to a safer Double Crossover Diamond configuration – which will also allow Leestown Road to return to two lanes each direction by mid- to late-December, reducing traffic congestion for remaining construction work.
State engineers and contractors will work with city officials, emergency services, and schools throughout the temporary ramp closures to reduce area traffic impacts as much as possible. Potential measures include traffic signal adjustments and updated detours to better accommodate traffic flow.
Further traffic changes will be announced later this month and through December as work progresses.
The work is part of the New Circle Road widening project. When complete in 2027, the project will increase the capacity and operation of New Circle Road and the Leestown Interchange – which will be converted to a Double Crossover Diamond interchange – to improve safety and travel times in this rapidly-growing area of Lexington.
