Drilling and Embankment Stabilization Work Continues on KY 1862 (Thornton Road) in Letcher County Through Friday, Oct. 17

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 15, 2025) –The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s District 12 office advises motorists that drilling and embankment stabilization work will continue this week along KY 1862 (Thornton Road) in Letcher County.
Contract crews will be working between Homeplace Drive (MP 3.2) and Worley Lane through Friday, October 17, as part of the ongoing roadway stability improvements in the area.
Work Schedule & Traffic Impact:
- Location: KY 1862, between Homeplace Drive and Worley Lane
- Schedule: Daily, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., through Friday, Oct. 17 (weather permitting)
- Traffic: The roadway will be closed to through traffic during working hours each day.
• Emergency vehicles and school buses will be accommodated as needed. • The route will reopen to normal traffic after 5 p.m. daily.
Motorists are advised to plan ahead, expect brief delays, and use alternate routes when possible.
KYTC asks drivers to use caution in the work zone, obey all posted signage, and remain alert for workers and equipment along the roadway. Your patience and cooperation help keep crews safe while these important roadway stability repairs are completed.
