Closure of KY 77 in Menifee County postponed a third time
New date is Wednesday, Oct. 8
JACKSON, Ky. – The closure of KY 77 in the Red River Gorge in Menifee County, originally scheduled for Sept. 23, rescheduled for Oct. 3 and then rescheduled for Oct. 7, has been postponed for a third time. The new closure date is Wednesday, Oct. 8.
The road will be closed at milepoint 0.3 for replacement of a drainage pipe. Work will begin at 7:30 a.m. and should be complete by 4 p.m. This location is between Forest Service Route 23 and KY 715.
This closure was originally scheduled for Sept. 23, but was postponed until Oct. 3 due to equipment issues. The new date conflicted with a bicycling event scheduled in the Red River Gorge, so to accommodate that event, the project was rescheduled until Oct. 7. Rainy weather expected tomorrow has forced the latest postponement.
No marked detour will be posted. Drivers can use FS 23, KY 613, KY 599 and US 460 through Powell and Montgomery counties as an alternate route to bypass the closure.
In case of inclement weather, the closure may be postponed again until another suitable date.
Approximately 550 vehicles use this section of KY 77 each day.
