AA Highway (KY 9) and KY 709 Intersection Improvements in Campbell County to Begin Monday, Sept. 22

Project includes new turning lanes, updated signals and signage

COVINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 19, 2025) The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists that work will begin on Monday, Sept. 22, to add two new turning lanes at the AA Highway (KY 9) and KY 709 intersection in Campbell County.

As part of the project, the following turning lanes will be installed:

  • A right turn lane from AA Highway southbound to KY 709 westbound (mile point 12.3 to 12.1)
  • A right turn lane from KY 709 eastbound to AA Highway southbound (mile point 0.4 to 0.46)

Traffic signals and roadway signage will also be updated to coincide with the new lanes. The improvements will enhance safety by providing dedicated space for turning movements and will improve traffic flow by reducing slowdowns along AA Highway.

A single right lane closure on AA Highway southbound will be in place during working hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Additionally, a closure of KY 709 eastbound from east of the Seasons entrance (mile point 0.36) to the AA highway intersection will also be necessary for the installation of the new turning lane. When the closure is in place, traffic will be detoured via KY 709 to Alexandria Pike (U.S. 27) to AA Highway. KYTC will provide an update once the closure is scheduled.

Construction signage and message boards are in place to advise the public of upcoming work.

Riegler Blacktop Inc. is contracted to perform the $449,180 project on behalf of KYTC. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by Nov. 1, 2025.

Project schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
