Expect Traffic Changes for Ashland Bridge Inspections Beginning Sept. 7

Bridge Closure and Daily Lane Closures

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (Sept. 5,  2025)– Tri-State motorists should expect traffic impacts at the Ashland twin bridges this month as contractors inspect the Ohio River crossings.

Beginning Sunday, Sept.7, contractors will use climbing gear, lifts, and specialized trucks to inspect structural components of the 12th Street (green) and 13th Street (blue) bridges that carry US 23 and US 60 traffic between Kentucky and Ohio.

The inspection will require a full closure of the 12th Street Bridge beginning on Sunday, Sept. 7 thru Saturday, Sept. 13. Traffic can utilize the Ironton Russell-Oakley Clark Collin’s Memorial Bridge during this closure.

Beginning on Monday, Sept. 15, the 13th Street Bridge will have single lane closures thru Friday, Sept. 19.

Inclement weather can affect inspection schedules. Daily work and lane closures could be rescheduled for the next clear-weather day.

The Transportation Cabinet’s bridge inspection program is an important safety program to ensure all structures in Kentucky remain usable for traffic and commerce. Inspections require bridge closures and other traffic changes to protect inspection vehicles, equipment and personnel in work zones.

Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to heed all warning signs, slow down in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment when traveling.
