Work Resumes on U.S. 41-A Improvement Project in Madisonville

Project slated for December 2026 completion

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (August 8, 2025) Scotty's Contracting and Stone began mobilizing equipment on Thursday to resume construction of a 3.3 mile stretch of U.S. 41-A/Nebo Road in Madisonville, ending a lengthy delay in the project brought about by multiple periods of severe weather and difficulty in moving existing utilities out of the path of the project.

The project will improve U.S. 41-A from Yorkwood Place (1.25 mm) to Industrial Drive (3.3 mm), tying in with previous improvements and widening between Yorkwood Place and U.S. 41/North Main Street.

The majority of the project will consist of entirely new construction, with motorists experiencing only minor traffic delays during the bulk of the work.

The new route will also mean a different traffic configuration for motorists who navigate U.S. 41-A. One of the biggest changes motorists will see is an entirely new and safer intersection with KY 1034/Rose Creek Road. That intersection will be extended out to meet the new path of U.S. 41-A, which will be constructed to the north of the current roadway--the site where earthwork has already started. The five-lane segment that currently ends at Yorkwood Place will be extended by about a half mile to the new intersection of U.S. 41-A and Rose Creek Road. From there it will become a two-lane road with a turning lane and wider shoulders all the way to Industrial Drive.

For part of the construction, between Tucker Schoolhouse Road (2.6 mm) and Industrial Drive, crews will build a diversion, which will allow traffic to be diverted off the main roadway while the existing road is replaced with new construction.

Work is scheduled to begin at the Industrial Drive end of the project as soon as Monday, August 11.

The $16.7 million highway improvement project is slated to be completed by Christmas of 2026.
