TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Weekend Lane and Ramp Closures on Interstate 65 North in Downtown Louisville Beginning Friday, Aug. 1

Bridge joint replacement project advancing

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (July 30, 2025) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of upcoming lane and ramp closures on northbound Interstate 65 in downtown Louisville beginning Friday, Aug. 1, as part of the ongoing bridge joint replacement project along the I-65 corridor locally known as "Hospital Curve".

Contract crews recently completed the replacement of the southbound expansion joint at mile point 135.6 — approximately one mile south of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge — ahead of schedule. Work now shifts to the northbound side of the interstate, requiring weekend lane and ramp closures.

Beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, the center and right lanes of I-65 North will close at mile marker 135 (near U.S. 150/East Broadway). In addition, the northbound off-ramp to Brook Street at Exit 136A will also be closed. These lane and ramp closures will remain in place through 5 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 4. Motorists should heed signage, use caution, and expect delays when traveling through the work zone.

To complete the northbound joint replacement, an additional weekend of lane closures will be needed. KYTC will share updated details once the schedule is finalized.

The date and duration of this work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. ABOUT THE I-65 JOINT REPLACEMENT PROJECT AT "HOSPITAL CURVE":
As part of Team Kentucky's commitment to safety, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is overseeing a bridge joint replacement project on Interstate 65 in downtown Louisville, in the area locally known as "Hospital Curve". The work includes the full replacement of bridge joints on both the northbound and southbound lanes at mile point 135.6, approximately one mile south of the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge. The project will enhance safety, reduce long-term maintenance needs, and improve the overall driving experience through this heavily traveled corridor. In addition to joint replacements, a high-friction surface treatment (HFST) has been applied from the end of the Kennedy Bridge to the bridge over Witherspoon Street. HFST increases pavement friction, particularly when wet weather makes roadways slick, and also helps protect concrete surfaces. The $1 million project is being completed by Hall Contracting of Kentucky, Inc.
