UPDATE: Interstate 24 Eastbound Reopens After Crash at the Ohio River Bridge; Traffic Moving Slowly

PADUCAH, Ky. (July 19, 2025) – Interstate 24 eastbound has reopened at the I-24 Ohio River Bridge following a crash on the Illinois side.

While the crash site has been cleared, motorists may still experience some delays as traffic flow between Metropolis, Ill., and Paducah, Ky., returns to normal.

As a reminder, traffic on the bridge is reduced to one lane in each direction through October 14.

Please slow down, maintain a safe following distance, and avoid distractions as you approach the I-24 Ohio River Bridge work zone at the Kentucky-Illinois State Line.

PADUCAH, Ky. (July 19, 2025) – Eastbound traffic on the Interstate 24 Ohio River Bridge between Metropolis, Ill., and Paducah, Ky., is blocked due to a multiple vehicle crash. 

Emergency crews are on scene. 

There is no estimated duration at this time; but it is likely to be several hours for cleanup and recovery. Be prepared for delays.

REMINDER:

Passenger vehicles may detour via the U.S. 45 Ohio River "Brookport" Bridge between Brookport, Ill., and Paducah, Ky.

Semis and large commercial vehicles are prohibited from crossing the Brookport Bridge due to height, weight and load restrictions.

The nearest detour for semis and commercial vehicles is the U.S. 51 Ohio River “Cairo” Bridge between Cairo, Ill., and Wickliffe, Ky.
