EXINGTON, Ky. (July 11, 2025) – As part of the ongoing Richmond Road Improvement Project in Fayette County, Aphids Way will be fully closed to all traffic starting Monday, July 14, 2025.
This closure is necessary to construct the new, widened alignment of Aphids Way, a critical component of the project to provide a safer Richmond and Athens-Boonesboro road intersection (U.S. 25 and KY 418). The closure will remain in place until construction is complete and the new alignment is opened to traffic.
Traffic Changes:
- Location: Aphids Way.
- Detour: Use Old Richmond Road.
- Access: Local access within the work zone will be restricted.
Motorists should anticipate delays and exercise caution when traveling in the area.
Richmond Road Improvement Project
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is investing $13.2 million to convert five intersections between Man O’ War Boulevard and I-75 into safer RCUTs (restricted crossing U-turns), eliminating left turns from side streets to reduce conflict points and improve traffic flow. Additional upgrades include a new Jacobson Park entrance, a shared-use path, and other road improvements, all scheduled for completion by fall 2026.
More information is available online at richmondroadimprovements.com. Find out how RCUT intersections work on KYTC’s SAFERoad Solutions web page.
All work and/or closures are scheduled on a tentative basis and subject to change depending on weather conditions, emergencies, and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.
District 7 includes: Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Fayette, Garrard, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Montgomery, Scott, and Woodford Counties
