Lane Restriction Planned on Interstate 24 Tennessee River Bridge Starting on Monday, July 21
Weekday inspections will run for approximately two weeks
PADUCAH, Ky. (July 14, 2025) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is planning a daytime lane restriction on the Interstate 24 Tennessee River Bridge starting on Monday, July 21, weather permitting.
The I-24 Tennessee River Bridge consists of twin tied-arch suspension bridges at I-24 mile point 29.352 at the Marshall-Livingston County Line.
The lane restriction will start on I-24 eastbound from about July 21 to 25; and then move to I-24 westbound from about July 28 to August 1.
Crews will use an under-bridge inspection vehicle (UBIV) to inspect the bridge from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays for approximately two weeks.
During this time, a team of climbers will also be conducting a hands-on inspection of the bridge.
Motorists should be alert for signage and trucks with arrow boards guiding traffic to shift into the open lane, as work will alternate from one lane to the other.
Use caution where workers and equipment are along the roadway near traffic flow.
The I-24 Tennessee River Bridge, also known as the Luther Draffen Bridge, carries approximately 30,000 vehicles across the Tennessee River in an average day.
