ROADSHOW Week of June 8, 2025

Pothole patching, sweeping, drain & ditch work, litter pick up, brush clearing, culvert repairs and additional work by our KYTC maintenance crews may occur on major interstates/state routes during non-peak daytime hours and at night.
Motorists should watch for roadside maintenance on interstates/highways throughout the district DAILY. We will send out information to the public if these tasks require significant impacts to traffic.

GALLATIN & CARROLL COUNTIES

Interstate 71 – 52.77 – 57.36 mile points – A widening project aimed at reducing congestion and improving safety on I-71 in Carroll and Gallatin counties is in progress. The project will widen I-71 from its configuration of two lanes in each direction, to three lanes.
A shoulder has been paved to temporarily accommodate traffic during this phase of the construction project. Most of the work is currently taking place in the median behind barrier wall.
This widening project includes a bridge replacement over KY 47. The current bridges will be replaced with a new, single span bridge matching the median widening throughout the project area.
Beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, June 9, bridge work is scheduled to take place. This work will require 15 minute closures (as needed) on KY 47 between Walnut Valley Road and KY 465 (the I-71 underpass). Closures will be limited to 15 minutes and all traffic will be let through before the next closure begins. This work is expected to take 1 day, but traffic impacts could linger into Tuesday, June 10.
The speed limit in the work zone is now reduced to 55 MPH, and law enforcement will be on-site to ensure compliance. Please, drive carefully throughout the work zone. Weather permitting, the overall project is expected to be completed Nov. 1, 2026.

Main Street (U.S. 25) – 1.0 mile point – Railroad crossing repairs performed by CSX Transportation at the U.S. 25 crossing in downtown Walton is now complete.

U.S. 42 – 13.03 – 13.91 mile point – A resurfacing project on U.S. 42 from just west of Evergreen Drive to east of the concrete pavement at the I-71/75 ramps is in progress.
ADA sidewalk installation and milling/paving operations are now complete. Thermoplastic striping work still remains.
Crews will be primarily working on this project during evening/overnight hours to mitigate traffic disruptions.

Santa Fe Road (KY 536) – 0.01 mile point – Bridge deck restoration and waterproofing work is scheduled to begin on the Santa Fe Road bridge over the Licking River beginning Monday, June 9.
The structure will be fully closed for 30 calendar days. A signed detour will be in place, directing motorists along KY 19 and KY 2897 to bypass the closure.
Expect delays, follow posted detours and avoid driving around barricades.
Weather permitting, the overall project has an expected completion date of July 31, 2025.

Mary Ingles Highway (KY 8) – 7.07 mile point – Bridge deck restoration and waterproofing work is scheduled to begin on the Mary Ingles Highway bridge over Locust Creek beginning Sunday, June 22.
Work will require a 24/7 single lane closure, with temporary traffic signals installed to guide traffic. Crews will shift traffic to the opposite lane once the first half of the bridge is complete.
Weather permitting, the overall project has an expected completion date of July 31, 2025.

E. Main Street (KY 10) – 3.4 – 3.65 mile points – A slide repair project on E. Main Street will begin on Monday, June 9. Crews will repair a slide near Redstone Road. The road was damaged due to flooding in April. This work will require a full road closure between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. The road will reopen daily at 5 p.m. with a single lane closure. Motorists will use a temporary signal to get through the work zone. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed Friday, June 13.

High Friction Surface – Various Routes – Several traffic impacts will be in place during evening/overnight hours for the application of high friction surface treatment on various routes in Campbell County beginning Sunday, June 8.
All work listed below will occur between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m. Contractors will be applying a high friction treatment to the roadway surface. The higher pavement friction will help motorists maintain better control in both dry and wet driving conditions.
This work is weather permitting and dates are tentative. Updates to the project schedule will be provided here as/if they occur.

Sunday, June 8:
Interstate 471 northbound to U.S. 27 southbound: Right lane closure on the I-471 northbound ramp
Interstate 471 southbound to U.S. 27 northbound: Right lane closure on I-471 southbound ramp
Monday, June 9:
I-471 northbound to U.S. 27: Double left lane closure on the off-ramp to Alexandria Pike
Tuesday, June 10:
Memorial Parkway (KY 1120) eastbound approach to Pavilion Parkway intersection: Lane closure on Memorial Parkway eastbound approach to Pavilion Parkway intersection. Lane will be shifted to maintain traffic.
Memorial Parkway westbound approach to I-471 northbound ramp intersection: Left lane closure will be in place for this work.
Wednesday, June 11:
Memorial Parkway westbound approach to I-471 northbound ramp intersection: Right lane closure will be in place for this work.
Thursday, June 12:
Northbound Alexandria Pike (U.S. 27) between the Louie B. Nunn Drive and Sunset Drive intersections. (16.64 – 16.73 mile points).
A double right lane closure will be in place starting around the Johns Hill Road (KY 3490) intersection extending to the Sunset Drive intersection.
Friday, June 13:
Crews will be working in the same location as Thursday, June 12, but will have a double left lane closure set up.

Interstate 75 – 157.7 – 162.7 mile points – A resurfacing project on a five-mile stretch of I-75, from just south of Dry Ridge to just north of the Sherman Mt Zion Road (KY 1994) overpass is in progress.
Sunday, June 8 through Tuesday, June 10: Weather permitting, an additional left lane on I-75 SB will close resulting in a double left lane closure along the whole five-mile stretch of the project limits. The closure will be in place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. for milling and paving operations. At 6 a.m. daily, the double lane closure will revert back to a single lane closure.
Beginning Wednesday, June 11: A traffic switch will occur on I-75 SB shifting traffic to the left and middle lanes. The 24/7 closure will be moved to the right lane/shoulder to allow crews to perform shoulder repairs/paving and guardrail replacement. Work will take place from 9 p.m. to 6 am.
I-75 Northbound Update: A single left lane closure remains in place. We expect to provide a timeline for work in the northbound direction in the coming weeks.
The schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions and project progress. If work advances ahead of schedule, the traffic shift could happen earlier than planned.

Taft Highway (KY 22) – 0.0 – 5.67 mile point – A resurfacing project on Taft Highway (KY 22) beginning at the Grant/Owen County line extending to just west of Jonesville Road (KY 36) is in progress.
Base failure repairs are now complete. Weather permitting, milling and paving operations are scheduled to begin the week of June 8. A single lane closure will be in place during daytime working hours throughout the project limits. Flaggers will be on-site to direct traffic.
The project is expected to be completed by June 30, 2025.

Keefer Road (KY 2936) – 0.0 – 3.69 mile point – A resurfacing project on Keefer Road from Keefer Lawrenceville Road to U.S. 25 is in progress.
Base failure repairs on Keefer Road began on Tuesday, June 3. Once work is complete on Keefer Road, crews will move to Gardnersville Road to perform repairs ahead of resurfacing. Milling/paving operations will follow once base repairs have had sufficient time to cure.
A single lane closure will be in place during daytime working hours throughout the project limits. Flaggers will be on-site to direct traffic.
The project is expected to be completed by June 30, 2025.

Gardnersville Road (KY 491) – 3.98 – 5.42 mile point – A resurfacing project on Gardnersville Road from U.S. 25 to North Folk Drive is in progress.
Once work is complete on Keefer Road (KY 2936), crews will move to Gardnersville Road to perform repairs ahead of resurfacing. Milling/paving operations will follow once base repairs have had sufficient time to cure.
A single lane closure will be in place during daytime working hours throughout the project limits. Flaggers will be on-site to direct traffic.
The project is expected to be completed by June 30, 2025.

Clay Wade Bailey Bridge (U.S. 25, U.S. 42, U.S. 127) – 13.45 – 13.87 mile points – Routine bridge repairs on the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge are in progress. The project consists of replacing joints, sealing joints, repairing steel and approach/truss drainage repairs.
A ten-day closure to install three modular joints on the bridge has been scheduled. Beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 12, the bridge will be closed to all vehicular traffic, but pedestrians and bicyclists will still have access.
The bridge is expected to reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday, June 23.

Bristow Road (KY 1303) – 0.0 – 0.55 mile points –beginning Sunday, June 15, a 45-day closure will be in place on Bristow Road from south of Timber Lane to the intersection of KY 536 and KY 1303. This will allow a safe area for crews to begin constructing a roundabout at the intersection. Through traffic on KY 536 will be maintained. Local traffic will be maintained on KY 1303 from Richardson Road to Timber Lane.
Motorists can detour using KY 536 to Dixie Highway, to either Richardson Road or Industrial Road. NOTE: the bridge east of Dixie Highway on Richardson Road currently has a weight limit of three tons. Any vehicles weighing more than three tons should use Industrial Road as a detour.
The closure is expected to be in place through Aug. 1, 2025. KYTC will update on social media if additional days are needed. This work is part of the ongoing Mt. Zion Road/Bristow Road widening/safety improvement project. Crews will be working on KY 536 from west of the KY 1303 intersection to west of Williamswoods Drive. Detour information for the KY 1303 closure

Fourth Street/Fifth Street/Highway Avenue (KY 8) – A resurfacing project on KY 8 will resume on Thursday, June 5. Crews will begin milling/paving operations on Thursday, June 5 on W. Fourth Street between Garrard Street (7.41 mile point) and Philadelphia Street (6.66 mile point), a distance of 0.75 miles. Most of this work will take place between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. Motorists should expect double lane closures during working hours. One lane of traffic will be maintained during working hours.
Due to rain in the forecast on Friday, June 6, the contractor has updated the weekend milling/paving operation schedule:
- Saturday, June 7: milling on Fourth Street from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Sunday, June 8: paving on Fourth Street from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
- Monday, June 9: finish milling operations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Then will return for paving operations from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. (Tuesday, June 10)
As part of the resurfacing project, a roadway reconfiguration will take place on a half-mile stretch of W. Fourth Street from Garrard Street (mile point 7.41) to Johnson Street (mile point 6.89). The current right lane on W. Fourth Street through this area will become a dedicated bicycle lane. The five-foot wide bicycle lane will feature a three-foot buffer from the curb, and two-foot buffer from vehicular traffic. This bicycle lane will be one-way with bicyclists traveling westbound on W. Fourth Street.
A majority of the resurfacing project was performed late 2024. The following portions of KY 8 have already been resurfaced as part of this project:
- Highway Avenue from Spring Street (mile point 6.14) to Western Avenue (mile point 6.23), a distance of 0.09 miles.

Fifth Street from the exit off-ramp of I-71/75 northbound (mile point 6.68) to the Licking River Bridge (mile point 7.6), a distance of 0.92 miles.
The project is expected to be completed June 30, 2025.

Howard Litzler Drive (KY 3070) – 0.0 – 0.87 mile point – A resurfacing project on Howard Litzler Drive between KY 17 and KY 16 is now complete.

Highland Pike (KY 1072) – 0.73 – 1.83 mile point – A resurfacing project on Highland Pike between KY 17 and Werner Drive is now complete.
