Traffic modifications planned for Richmond in Madison County

High School Graduation Ceremonies at Eastern KY University

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 20, 2025) The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of traffic changes planned for Richmond, Madison County. High school graduation Ceremonies will be held at Eastern Kentucky University. The events will be on campus inside Alumni Coliseum.

Local law enforcement will be onsite to control the intersection of the Eastern Bypass/KY 876 (milepoint 8.32) and Veterans Boulevard (CR). Changes for the traffic light will be utilized for Lancaster Avenue/KY 52 at the Eastern Bypass (milepoint 8.15) and Roy & Sue Kidd Way (CR) at the Eastern Bypass (milepoint 8.53).

The eastbound turn lane from the Eastern Bypass/KY 876 onto northbound Roy & Sue Kidd Way will be closed. Traffic will be congested during the time of the ceremonies. Priority will be given to emergency vehicles. Motorists should anticipate east and westbound traffic congestion along the Eastern Bypass/KY 876 and side roads. 

Friday, May 23, 2025Madison Southern High School Graduation in Alumni Coliseum 

  • 5:30 p.m. - traffic control begins
  • 6 p.m. - doors open
  • 7 p.m. - event begins
  • 8:30 – 9:30 p.m. - event departure with traffic control

Saturday, May 24, 2025Madison Central High School Graduation in Alumni Coliseum

  • 8:30 a.m. - traffic control begins
  • 9 a.m. - doors open
  • 10 a.m. - event begins
  • 11:30 – 12:30 a.m. - event departure with traffic control

All work and/or closures are scheduled on a tentative basis, and subject to change depending on weather, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.

District 7 includes Anderson, Bourbon, Boyle, Clark, Fayette, Garrard, Jessamine, Madison, Mercer, Montgomery, Scott and Woodford Counties.
