Rolling Roadblock on I-71/75 in Kenton County on Monday, May 19

Skid testing will begin at 10 p.m. and take about three hours

COVINGTON, Ky. (May 19, 2025) The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of a rolling roadblock on Interstate 71/75 in Kenton County on Monday, May 19. Traffic will be temporarily slowed down and, at times, stopped to allow crews space to perform skid testing.

This type of project evaluates skid resistance. Skid resistance is when a tire is no longer able to rotate on the pavement surface, and as a result loses traction and slides along the top of the surface. This testing ensures motorists can safely travel in all types of weather.

The testing will be performed on I-71/75 from west of U.S. 25 (Dixie Highway) Exit 188 (mile point 187.4), to the Brent Spence Bridge (mile point 191.4).

Motorists should expect a rolling roadblock mobile operation. Plan ahead and avoid these areas, if possible.

Schedule of Work (Tentative)

  • Monday, May 19 at 10 p.m.: crews will begin on I-71/75 northbound from Dixie Highway to the Brent Spence Bridge.
  • Once northbound is completed, crews will switch to I-71/75 southbound from the Brent Spence Bridge to Dixie Highway.

Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed Tuesday, May 20, at 1 a.m.

Project schedules are subject to change due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
