New Traffic Pattern Planned for U.S. 62 at old KY 6114 in Muhlenberg County

Old asphalt being removed today

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (May 12, 2025) – With the safety of Kentucky motorists in mind, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet began removing the old KY 6115 connector with old KY 6114 at U.S. 62 in Powderly this morning.

The northern section of old US 62 was renamed KY 6114 and the KY 6115 connection was constructed by KYTC in 1985, as part of the opening of Everly Brothers Boulevard.

This small section of roadway was scheduled to be closed after 2002, when the current U.S. 62 intersection with Everly Brothers Boulevard was constructed. Although some motorists have continued to use this roadway, it is not part of the state road system, is not being maintained, and there is a better, safer intersection option nearby.

Due to the deteriorated condition of the old KY 6115, the only alternative available is to remove the connector as was intended in 2002. This will necessitate a traffic flow change at the intersection of U.S. 62 and KY 6114. Traffic on U.S. 62 will no longer be required to stop. A stop sign will be placed on old KY 6114 to allow motorists on US 62 to maintain free-flow movement.

Some traffic delays could be expected in the area today and throughout the week as KYTC completes the work.
