Traffic Advisory: Lane Configuration Changes Coming for US 62 Near Dixie in Elizabethtown
Restriping will require short-term closures
ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (May 5, 2025) – As part of a larger road diet project to increase safety through the downtown Elizabethtown section of US 62, restriping will begin soon to the west and east of US 31W just north of the square. Configuration changes will take place between College Street and West Poplar Street, allowing better spacing.
Consolidation of eastbound approaches will take place at the US 31W signal. The left-turn lane will remain, while thru and right-turn lanes will be combined.
For westbound traffic, the current four-lane configuration between US 31W and West Poplar Street will become two lanes with a center turn lane. Westbound turning and thru lane approaches to the US 31W signal will not change from their current configuration. The westbound approach to the West Poplar Street signal will change to a dedicated left-turn lane and a single thru lane.
Resurfacing is scheduled to take place later this year along US 62 throughout the section. Making these changes now by taking up old striping will allow for observation, tweaking of signal timing and any needed adjustments ahead of permanent striping on new pavement.
Work to restripe the section will impact traffic with short-term closures overnight to minimize disruption and may take place Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on weather. Updates will be posted on KYTC District 4 social media @KYTCDistrict4.
