Weekend Ramp and Lane Closures Scheduled for New Circle Road

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 23, 2025) – Construction for the New Circle Road (KY 4) Widening project in Lexington will require temporary weekend ramp and lane closures on New Circle Road and Leestown Road Friday, April 25 through Monday, April 28. The closure will allow contractors to work on the ramps.
Beginning at 7 p.m. Friday night, the New Circle Road outer loop (KY 4 Westbound) off ramp to Leestown Road (US 421) will close. At the same time, the Leestown Road (US 421) on ramp to the New Circle Road outer loop (KY 4 Westbound) will also close. Additionally, the right lane of the New Circle Road outer loop (KY 4 Westbound) will close between Mile Marker 9.2 and Mile Marker 7.0. Both ramps and the lane will reopen by 6 a.m. Monday morning.
Drivers on New Circle Road who wish to exit to Leestown Road will be detoured onto KY 1681, then take the KY 1681 ramp to re-enter New Circle Road Eastbound to exit at Leestown Road. Drivers on Leestown Road who wish to enter New Circle Road Westbound will need to enter New Circle Road Eastbound, exit at Georgetown Road, and then re-enter New Circle Road Westbound.

- At 7 p.m., the New Circle Road outer loop off ramp to Leestown Road will close.
- At 7 p.m., the Leestown Road on ramp to the New Circle Road outer loop will close.
- At 7 p.m., the right lane of New Circle Road outer loop will close between Mile Marker 9.2 and Mile Marker 7.0.
- Both ramps and the lane will reopen by 6 a.m. Monday morning.
This work is part of the New Circle Road widening project. When complete in 2027, the project will increase the capacity and operation of New Circle Road and the Leestown Interchange, improving safety and travel times in this rapidly-growing area of Lexington. All work and/or closures are scheduled on a tentative basis, and subject to change depending on weather conditions, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.
