Road Closure Scheduled on KY 1697 Spruce Pine Road in Knott County
Drilling Work to Address Roadway Breaks and Embankment Failures
PIKEVILLE, Ky. (Apr.14, 2025) –The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 12 advises the public of a road closure on KY 1697 (Spruce Pine Road/Slone Fork) from Monday, April 14, through Friday, April 18, as crews perform railroad steel drilling to stabilize roadway breaks and embankment failures.
Work will take place daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. between mile points 0.5 and 3.8. Due to the narrow width of KY 1697, the road will be fully closed to traffic during working hours.
Emergency vehicles and school buses will be permitted to pass during the closures.
Traffic will be controlled using barricades and temporary traffic signals. Drivers are encouraged to use KY 550 W and KY 899/KY 160 as alternate routes.
The Transportation Cabinet urges all motorists to plan ahead, follow posted detours, and drive safely in and around work zones.
Blue Rock Inc. will perform the work. The schedule is subject to change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
