Shawneetown Bridge Inspection Begins Today

Work scheduled Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (April 14, 2025) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to begin a routine hands-on inspection of the Shawneetown Bridge from KY 56 in Union County to Illinois Highway 13 this morning at around 9:30 a.m. Lane restrictions and flaggers should be expected periodically today through Friday.

Crews will be utilizing a number of techniques to inspect the entire bridge including climbing trusses and using specially designed equipment to examine beneath the bridge.

Flaggers will be utilized when necessary.

Work is scheduled everyday from Monday, April 14 through Friday, April 18 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Around 2,600 vehicles use this bridge each day to travel between Union County, Kentucky and Gallatin County, Illinois. All Kentucky bridges are inspected on a regular schedule to insure safety and longevity.
