KYTC District 7 closely monitoring

weather conditions

Possible flash flooding, hail, strong winds and tornadoes

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 2, 2025) The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises that District 7 personnel are monitoring weather conditions closely. Weather information stations across Kentucky provide data to the Transportation Operations Center in Frankfort. The TOC is staffed 24 hours a day and distributes information to the twelve highway districts across the state.

The storm is forecasted to reach Central KY this evening at approximately 12 a.m. (midnight). This severe weather event includes the possibility of tornadoes, large hail, and widespread damaging winds. There is also a significant flash flood threat for tonight and extending through Saturday.

District 7 Crews are ready for this inclement weather event. Personnel have readied chain saws, gasoline and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in preparation. Crews place signage in areas that have high water and flooding. When the water recedes, and roads are deemed safe, “Road Closed” signs are removed

Motorists should avoid travel if possible and utilize extreme caution if travel is necessary. Alternate routes should be utilized instead of driving through low areas that are prone to flooding. Motorists should never attempt to drive through standing or flowing water.
