Extended Lane Reduction Planned on WK Green River Bridges
Width reduction and lower speed limits expected
MADISONVILLE, Ky. (March 5, 2025) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to begin a bridge rehabilitation project on the two Green River bridges on the Western Kentucky Parkway next week. The project will result in extended lane closures and width restrictions until late summer.
Intech Contracting, LLC plans to begin the project on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, by reducing the westbound bridge (65.7 mm) to one lane. They will then work to replace bridge railing and repair beams located under the bridge decking. This process is expected to last through the end of May.
When work on the westbound bridge is completed, the contractor will move to the eastbound bridge to complete the same repairs.
During lane restrictions, the highway will be reduced to one 12-foot lane, and the speed limit in the impacted area will be reduced to 60 mph. Overweight and over-dimensional loads will need to detour around the bridge utilizing I-165, U.S. 60 (former Owensboro Bypass), the Audubon Parkway, and I-69.
The entire project is scheduled to be completed by the end of August.
The eastbound bridge was built in 1963 during the construction of the Western Kentucky Parkway. The westbound was completed in 1964. Both bridges carry more than 4,100 vehicles per day. They are located at the Muhlenberg-Ohio County line
