UPDATE: Work Zone Along U.S. 51 Ohio River 'Cairo' Bridge Will Resume Thursday, Feb. 20

Lane restrictions were paused for back-to-back winter weather events

PADUCAH, Ky. (Feb. 19, 2025)  A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) will resume a work zone along the U.S. 51 Ohio River “Cairo” Bridge between Wickliffe, KY, and Cairo, IL, on Thursday, Feb. 20.

Work was paused on Feb. 10 in anticipation of back-to-back winter weather events, starting with flooding and followed by snow.

Today, KYTC District 1 crews were able to clear the bridge of snow accumulation.

The contractor is replacing deck railing along the bridge, and the project is estimated to last until about March 1, weather permitting.

A temporary traffic signal will be reinstalled.

KYTC District 1 will provide timely updates on the project.
