Speed Limit Reduced on Section of KY 131 Through Reidland Area of McCracken County
Drop from 45 to 35 mph aimed at enhancing safety
PADUCAH, Ky. (Feb. 18, 2025) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has reduced the speed limit along a section of KY 131/Reidland Road through the Reidland community of McCracken County. New signage reducing the speed limit from 45 to 35 miles per hour was placed on Monday.
This section of KY 131 runs from the 4.69 to 6.03 MM from Highland Circle Drive to the ramp from U.S. 62 at the end of the KY 131 Connector near I.C. Avenue.
A review of traffic crash reports between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2024, found police investigated 44 collisions along the route, including 12 crashes with injuries.
This speed limit reduction is aimed at enhancing safety along 1.34 miles of KY 131 which includes residential areas, the KY 284/Benton Road intersection, Reidland Elementary School, the KY 787/Calvert Drive intersection, the Reidland business district, and the KY 3075/Sheehan Bridge Road intersection.
The school zone speed limit at Reidland Elementary School will remain 25 miles per hour when school flashers are active.
Approximately 10,000 vehicles travel this section of KY 131/Reidland Road in an average day.
With signs posted, the new 35 mile per hour speed limit is active and subject to enforcement.
