Inclement weather forecasted for

Central Kentucky

Never attempt to drive through standing or flowing water

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 14, 2025)  The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises that the D7 Office is monitoring the weather pattern closely. Rain is forecasted to begin on Friday evening in Western Kentucky and move to the Eastern and Central areas of the state through the day on Saturday. The predicted rainfall is between 2 - 4 inches for Central Kentucky.

Motorists should always plan ahead for changing weather. This includes allowing additional time to reach a destination, reducing speed, driving without distractions, and leaving ample space between vehicles.

Drivers need to utilize alternate routes instead of driving through low areas that are prone to flooding. Motorists should never attempt to drive through standing or flowing water. Be aware of possible items such as small tree limbs and gravel that have washed out.

Heavy rain can reduce visibility and present danger for hydroplaning while driving. Hydroplaning occurs when the tires drive over wet pavement or standing water and lose contact with the road surface. This results in a loss of traction and an inability to steer the vehicle. Hydroplaning can occur at any speed under the right combination of conditions.

When necessary, maintenance crews place signage in areas that have high water and flooding. When the water recedes, and roads are deemed safe, “Road Closed” signs will be removed.
