Interstate Rehab Project to Get Underway in Madisonville this Week

Project slated to be completed by mid-November

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 4, 2025) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to begin a $10 million roadway rehabilitation project along a 4.34-mile section of Interstate 69 in Madisonville on Wednesday.

The first phase of the project is scheduled to begin tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 5, with the fast lane of the interstate being blocked in each direction from KY 281/Island Ford Road (116.03-mile point) to just south of the KY 2657/Fowler Road overpass (118.15 mp). This lane restriction is in place to allow Cambry, a subcontractor working for Scotty's Contracting and Stone, to begin pouring new crash safety walls around bridge piers at the U.S. 41 and KY 281 overpasses. Crews will also replace damaged guardrail through this two-mile stretch of roadway.

This first phase of the project will last approximately two weeks, depending on the weather, with lane restrictions continuing throughout the project as it progresses.

This project will address issues with pavement, guardrail, and other concerns on a stretch of I-69 beginning at KY 70 (114.24 mp) and ending at the KY 2657/Fowler Road overpass (118.15 mp). The project will also repair the northbound ramp at Exit 114, near James Madison Middle School.

Updates about the progress of the project and potential impacts on traffic flow will be released as the project moves forward.

The entire project is expected to be completed by mid-November 2025.
