Highland Point Drive Widening to Begin Next Week

Lane restrictions and shifts planned beginning Monday, Oct. 28

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 22, 2024) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to begin constructing the new entrance to Highland Point Drive in Owensboro on Monday, Oct 28, resulting in traffic shifts and lane restrictions at that intersection. This work is part of the ongoing $23.3 million project to widen KY 54 from U.S. 60 to Bold Forbes Way.

Highland Point Drive is expected to remain open during this work.

Next Monday, crews will be blocking the incoming lane between KY 54 and Highland Point Drive. The outgoing "left only" turn lane will be utilized for all incoming traffic, while the right turn/straight lane will handle all outgoing traffic.

When this work is complete, the incoming lane will reopen and the right lane of Highland Point Drive will be blocked.

Motorists should be aware of traffic cones and barrels marking the traffic shift. Flaggers could also be used at time to help alleviate traffic congestions or to allow for equipment to be moved to and from the work area.

Work on this intersection is expected to last about two weeks.

KY 54 is one of the busiest stretches of roadway in Daviess County, with around 32,000 vehicles passing between Heartland Crossing Boulevard, just west of the US 60 bypass, and Bold Forbes Way in the east every day. In order to accommodate existing traffic, and to allow for continued development in the area, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is in the process of widening the roadway to three-lanes in each direction and adding a concrete safety median for added safety.
