TRAFFIC ADVISORY: New Traffic Control Measures and Lane Configurations on KY 420 (Capital Avenue) in Franklin County
Installation of all-way stop control at Capital Avenue and Todd Street intersection scheduled for next week
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 11, 2024) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of changes to traffic control measures and lane configurations on KY 420 (Capital Avenue) in Franklin County.
Upon review of traffic volumes at the intersection of KY 420 (Capital Avenue) and Todd Street, an all-way stop will be installed on Wednesday, Oct. 16. The existing signage allows motorists on KY 420 (Capital Avenue) to proceed through the intersection freely, while drivers on Todd Street are required to stop. Recent traffic counts show that the volumes on KY 420 (Capital Avenue) and Todd Street are approximately equal, warranting the upgrade to an all-way stop.
KYTC crews will install signage, pavement markings and flexible delineators at the intersection as part of this change. "New Traffic Pattern Ahead" and "Stop Ahead" signs will also be placed to alert drivers of the stop condition. Motorists should heed signage, use caution and be prepared to stop.
In addition, following the completion of the asphalt resurfacing project on KY 420 (Old Lawrenceburg Road/Capital Avenue) from mile point 2.145 (KY 676) to mile point 4.122 (2nd Street), a new lane configuration has been implemented on KY 420 (Capital Avenue). The new lane configuration spans from U.S. 60 (2nd Street) to Todd Street and features one lane in each direction, as well as bike lanes and parking spaces. Signage has been installed to inform motorists of the updated traffic pattern.
