Single lane closures will be in place during the routine inspection
COVINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 10, 2024) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 6 Office advises motorists of a routine bridge inspection scheduled to take place on the Combs-Hehl Bridge (73.3 - 73.1 mile point), which carries Interstate 275 over the Ohio River. This inspection will begin on Monday, Oct. 14.
The Non-Redundant Steel Tension Member (NSTM) inspection is a close-up, hands-on examination of the bridge’s critical members. The Combs-Hehl Bridge undergoes this routine inspection every two years, with the most recent being October 2022.
The NSTM inspection will require single lane closures on the six-lane bridge from Monday, Oct. 14, through Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Motorists should expect single lane closures throughout the inspection period. Weekday lane closures are permitted between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. There are no weekend lane closure restrictions.
The contractor anticipates work on the eastbound portion of the bridge to begin on Monday, Oct. 14, and wrap up on Friday, Oct. 18. The tentative start date for the westbound portion of the bridge is Saturday, Oct. 19.
The inspection is being performed by Michael Baker International. Weather permitting, the overall project has an expected completion date of Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Any updates to the lane closure schedule will be relayed through our District 6 Roadshow and social media accounts.
