Transportation Cabinet to Hold Public Meeting Sessions Sept. 26 for Northwest Louisville Community Connectivity Study

Study to evaluate opportunities for connectivity improvements between Portland and Shawnee neighborhoods

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 13, 2024) The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) will hold two public meeting sessions on Thursday, Sept. 26, to inform residents and gather input on the Northwest Louisville Community Connectivity Study. This study will explore options to improve connections between Northwest Louisville neighborhoods south of the Riverside Expressway (Interstate 64) and areas adjacent to the Ohio River.

Two public meeting sessions will take place from 12-2 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. at Molly Leonard Portland Community Center, 640 North 27th Street, Louisville, Ky., on Thursday, Sept. 26. Those who are interested may drop in any time to learn about the study and provide feedback.

The existing highway network (I-64), railroad lines, flood walls and levees, and other infrastructure currently limit direct access to the riverfront. The study’s purpose is to identify community needs and options to improve multimodal connectivity, safety, and accessibility to mitigate these barriers. The study follows guidelines of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Reconnecting Communities Pilot Grant Program.

An online survey will be made available following the public meeting. Additional information regarding the study can be found online.

All written comments will become part of the official meeting record. Once compiled, the meeting record and supporting documentation will be made available for review and copying only after an open records request has been received and approved. All open records requests must be submitted to the Transportation Cabinet, Office of Legal Services, Transportation Office Building (200 Metro St, Frankfort, KY 40622), or via kytc.openrecords@ky.gov.

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), if anyone has a disability and requires accommodations, please notify Morgan Woodrum at KYTC no later than Tuesday, Sept. 24. Please call (502) 764-0481 or mail your request to the KYTC District 5 Office, 8310 Westport Road, Louisville, KY 40242.
