Temporary I-75 Ramp Closure Scheduled Sunday for Wrong-Way Crash Reduction Pilot
One of five ramps in Fayette County pilot project starting this fall
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 21, 2024) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists a temporary, two-day ramp closure on Interstate 75 will be in effect starting Monday, Aug. 26 to allow contractors to begin site prep for a pilot project aimed to reduce wrong-way crashes. Wrong-way detection and monitoring technology will be installed at five ramps in Fayette County this fall.
A small-scale, three-month pilot program was announced in February, allowing the project team to test the accuracy, resiliency and capabilities of different available systems before deploying to the final selected locations. The project goal is to prevent wrong-way driving crashes on high-crash interstate systems.
The 90-day evaluation window is expected to begin once construction is completed Sept.1 and will continue until early December. The Cabinet will evaluate performance to help identify the preferred technologies for future deployment at select ramps in Fayette and Jefferson Counties. During the testing and evaluation period, selected ramps will have temporary closures for testing technologies.
Monday, August 26 through Tuesday, August 27 – 6 a.m. Monday until 12 a.m. (midnight) Tuesday
