Part of ongoing Mineola Pike widening project
COVINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 8, 2024) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) District 6 Office advises motorists of overnight traffic impacts on Mineola Pike (KY 3076) in Boone County beginning Sunday, Aug. 11, as part of the ongoing Mineola Pike widening project.
Crews will be working at the intersection of Mineola Pike and Olympic Boulevard (mile point 0.818) between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. This work will include raising the grade of the intersection. Motorists should anticipate overnight lane closures. Flaggers will be used near the intersection to guide traffic safely through the work zone. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction. Access to businesses, and city/county roads will be maintained.
Motorists should watch for crews and equipment in the work zone. Exercise caution when traveling near the work zone: slow down, avoid distractions, and watch for workers. Travelers heading toward the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport should give themselves extra time during the evening/overnight hours.
Weather permitting, this overnight work is expected to be completed Wed., Aug. 14 at 6 a.m.
PROJECT BACKGROUND
These traffic impacts are part of the ongoing Mineola Pike improvement project which began in August 2022. The project, from KY 236 (Donaldson Highway) to I-275, will widen the one-mile road to five lanes with a curb and gutter. A sidewalk will be constructed on the south side of the road, and a ten-foot-wide multi-use path will be created for bicyclists and pedestrians.
“This project will greatly improve mobility and provide a better connection to I-275," said Bob Yeager, Chief District Engineer of KYTC’s District 6 office, “With these improvements, it will be a much safer route.”
The $10.4 million project was award to Eaton Asphalt Paving Co., Inc, of Walton, KY. Leaders anticipate the project to be completed by late Summer 2024.
