'Run for the Fallen' to be Held Sept. 7-8
Route will impact multiple state highways
MADISONVILLE, Ky. (September 6, 2024) – The annual Kentucky Run for the Fallen is scheduled to take place this Saturday and Sunday, passing through Christian, Daviess, Hopkins, McLean and Muhlenberg counties. The route of the event will follow multiple state highways during those two days.
The run will begin at 7 a.m. on Saturday, September 7 at Smothers Park in Owensboro. After leaving the park, the route will follow Frederica Street (KY 2831/Old U.S. 431) south for around 2.5 miles before turning on Byers Avenue. From Byers the race will follow New Hartford Road (U.S. 231) south four about four miles to Masonville, where it will turn onto KY 298 (Hill Bridge Road). Racers will follow KY 298 for around five miles, before turning north on U.S. 431 for one mile, then turning onto KY 554. After a four mile run on KY 554, the route will turn south on KY 81. The race will follow KY 81 for 28.5 miles, passing through Calhoun and Rumsey in McLean County and Sacramento, Bremen and South Carrolton in Muhlenberg County, before turning south on U.S. 431. Racers will then follow U.S. 431 through Central City, Powderly and Greenville before ending the day at the Muhlenberg County West Campus on KY 189.
On Sunday, September 8, the race will get underway at 6 a.m. The route will follow KY 189 to U.S. 62, then head west four approximately 18 miles, passing through White Plains and Nortonville in Hopkins County. From there the race turns south onto U.S. 41 for around 20 miles, passing through Crofton before entering downtown Hopkinsville. The course then follows KY 107 (Lafayette Road) south to Lovers Lane (KY 1613), which cuts across to U.S. 41A. The race will end at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West, just south of Hopkinsville.
Although law enforcement will be present in all five counties, motorists are asked to use caution if they are passing through the race area on these two days.
