Rolling Roadblocks Planned on Western Kentucky Parkway on Friday
Roadblocks will start at 8 a.m. and repeat several times during the day
MADISONVILLE, Ky. (August 1, 2024) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to utilize rolling roadblocks on the Western Kentucky Parkway tomorrow as crews place overhead forms for the new KY 2712 (Rob Roy Rd) Bridge over the WK in Ohio County.
During a rolling roadblock, traffic is permitted to keep moving, but is slowed by an emergency vehicle long enough to give workers 25-30 minutes at the job site to work without dealing with traffic.
The rolling roadblocks will begin at approximately 8 a.m. and be utilized twice in the eastbound lanes and twice in the westbound lanes throughout the day.
The westbound rolling roadblock will begin first, at approximately 8 a.m. on Friday. This roadblock will start at the Caneyville on-ramp (94 mm). Emergency vehicles will slow traffic until they pass the job site, located at the 77 mm. Once the lead vehicle passes the site, normal traffic flow will be allowed to resume. This roadblock will repeat once more during the day.
The eastbound roadblock will begin at the 64 mm in Muhlenberg County. During this time officials will also be closing Exit 41A from I-165 onto the eastbound WK, the WK eastbound on-ramp at Beaver Dam and the eastbound on-ramp from the Huck's Rest Area until the lead vehicle in the rolling roadblock has passed. Crews will use the same technique once more during the day.
The bridge is located just east of the WK/Interstate 165 interchange in Ohio County.
Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.
