Safety Study Public Meeting for KY 1934 (Greenbelt Highway/Cane Run Road) Improvements in Jefferson County
August 13 meeting seeks comments on potential safety, mobility changes
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (July 23, 2024) – A transportation safety study now underway in Southwest Louisville will evaluate potential improvements to KY 1934 (Greenbelt Highway/Cane Run Road) that would improve safety for Kentuckians who rely on the heavily traveled state highway. The study, in partnership with Louisville Metro Government’s transportation safety initiative, Vision Zero, will identify short-term and long-term safety and mobility enhancements for the roughly 11-mile corridor.
This study includes a full analysis of existing conditions along the corridor that will be used to develop practical solutions and improvement concepts to boost roadway safety and improve multi-modal transportation options. The study area spans along KY 1934 (Greenbelt Highway/Cane Run Road) from KY 841 (Gene Snyder Freeway) to KY 2054 (Algonquin Parkway).
As the study transitions into the public involvement phase, the public is invited to attend a public meeting Tuesday, August 13, to provide feedback. The public meeting will be an open-house event (no formal presentation) held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Farnsley Middle School, 3400 Lees Lane, in Louisville.
Those who are interested may drop in any time to receive handouts containing information and fill out comment sheets. Representatives from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Louisville Metro Government, and the project team will be in attendance to answer questions.
Written surveys will be available at the meeting for the public to provide feedback directly to the project team. Comments regarding the safety study will be accepted until Wednesday, August 28, 2024, and may be mailed to the KYTC District 5 Office at 8310 Westport Road, Louisville, KY, 40242. An online survey will also be available through August 28, 2024.
Following the public meeting, displays and materials will be available for review at the KYTC District 5 Office. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Input received from the August 13 public meeting and survey efforts will be compiled and considered as potential concepts are developed. Outreach will continue throughout the course of the study, with a second public meeting anticipated for this winter to collect input on potential improvement concepts. A final report is expected to be published by the fall of 2025.
All responses will become part of the official meeting record. Once compiled, the meeting record and supporting documentation will be made available for review and copying only after an Open Records Request has been received and approved. All Open Records Requests must be submitted to the Transportation Cabinet, Office of Legal Services, Transportation Office Building, 200 Metro St, Frankfort, KY 40622, or via kytc.openrecords@ky.gov.
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), anyone with a disability requiring assistance at the public meeting is asked to contact Morgan Woodrum at KYTC, no later than Monday, August 5. Please call (502) 764-0481, or mail your request to 8310 Westport Road, Louisville, KY 40242. Additionally, in compliance with Title VI, translation services are also offered upon request.
