ALERT: Chicken Offal Spill Creates Hazardous and Smelly Driving on U.S. 62 at 3mm in Lyon County

Estimated duration is 2 hours

PADUCAH, Ky. (July 12, 2024)  Lyon County 911 Dispatch reports a chicken offal spill is creating hazardous and smelly driving conditions along a section of U.S. 62 in Lyon County

This chicken offal spill is along about a half-mile section of U.S. 62 near the 3 mile marker.  This is in the Suwanee area and near the KY 810 intersection about halfway between the U.S. 62 Cumberland River 'Eureka Highway' Bridge at Lake City and the I-24 Eddyville-Kuttawa Exit 40 interchange.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area due to the slick driving conditions and the smell.  This section has been getting heavy traffic as an alternate route to the I-24 Tennessee River Bridge work zone.

With assistance from area fire departments, KYTC personnel are mobilizing equipment to help clear the chicken processing waste material from the roadway.

Estimated duration is approximately 2 hours.

KYTC District 1 is asking anyone with information on the truck that caused the spill to contact Kentucky State Police or the Lyon County Sheriff.

Updates as they become available.
