Overnight Traffic Impacts on I-75 Southbound in Grant and Kenton Counties Beginning Sunday, July 14
Traffic down to a single lane during overnight hours in project area through Tuesday, July 16
COVINGTON, Ky. (July 12, 2024) -- The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of scheduled overnight lane closures on Interstate 75 southbound in Grant and Kenton Counties beginning on Sunday, July 14.
The lane closures are associated with the ongoing resurfacing project on I-75 from mile point 164 (one mile south of the Crittenden exit) to mile point 169.4 (Kenton/Boone County line), a distance of 5.4 miles.
Weather permitting, on Sunday, July 14 at 8 p.m., crews will take I-75 southbound down to a single lane through the project area as they finish milling operations on the center lane of the interstate. This double lane closure will be in place through Monday, July 15 at 7 a.m.
On Monday, July 15 at 8 p.m., another double lane closure will be in place to allow crews space to pave the center lane through the project area. Lanes are expected to reopen Tuesday, July 16 at 7 a.m.
Motorists should expect nightly lane closures in the project area through Friday, July 19, as crews shift to paving the right lane of traffic.
Delays are possible during these overnight hours. Motorists should seek an alternate route and watch for trucks entering and leaving the work area.
Project Background
This resurfacing project started last spring with the contractor working on the northbound lanes of I-75. Crews are currently working on the southbound portion of the project. The project includes pavement repairs and resurfacing, drainage repairs, guardrail work, cross slope correction and erosion repairs.
This construction may require a temporary overnight closure of the Crittenden exit (Exit 166) on/off ramps. Message boards will be in place warning motorists of any upcoming ramp closures, and KYTC will advise ahead of those closures on social media and the District 6 roadshow.
Additionally, the contractor has indicated there is some minor remaining work to be performed on I-75 northbound in the project area. KYTC will advise motorists ahead of this work.
The project is expected to be completed by November 15, 2024.
The date, time, and duration of work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Motorists can get Northern Kentucky road construction updates on the District 6 Roadshow.
