Update: Intersection Improvements on Athens Boonesboro Road Continue
Between I 75 (MP 2.5) and Ashley Woods Road (MP 1.9)
LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 11, 2024) – Construction for intersection improvements continue on Athens Boonesboro Road/KY 418 near Interstate 75. Traffic impacts are along the four-lane Fayette County highway.
Motorists should be alert for a series of changes where Doe Run Trail and the entrance to a new soccer complex intersects Athens Boonesboro Road just west (Lexington side) of the interstate.
Interstate 75 to Ashley Woods Road
Thursday, July 11 – currently
- the left turn lanes from Athens Boonesboro Road onto Doe Run Trail are now open
Friday, July 12 through Friday, July 19 – 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.
- daily lane closures will be in effect on Athens Boonesboro Road
- motorists should expect heavy delays and utilize alternate routes if possible
Monday, July 22 – 8:30 a.m.
- new traffic patterns will begin
- the traffic patterns will include restricted crossing U-turns on each side of Competition Drive
- Competition Drive will be the entrance to the new soccer complex
The construction includes installation of new restricted crossing U-turn (RCUT) intersections along Athens Boonesboro Road.
An RCUT is a highway intersection design consisting of one main intersection and two median intersections that route crossing traffic using right turns and U-turns to enhance traffic flow and reduce the risk of right-angle crashes.
