US 60 (13th Street) Paving Project in Ashland Begins Next Week

Work, lane closures will take place at night during low traffic hours

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (July 10, 2023) – Work starts next week on a $1 million Kentucky Transportation Cabinet paving project along US 60 (13th Street) at Ashland.

The project includes the removal and replacement of old asphalt, and will be done after peak travel times. All work will take place between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. each night.

Beginning Monday, July 15, motorists should expect nighttime road work, lane closures, and delays as contractors pave nearly two miles of US 60-13th Street from Winslow Road (KY 1134) to Pollard-Oakview roads downtown. Work is expected to take about two weeks to complete.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS

When traveling in the work zone, motorists should be prepared to use different lanes for turning or for thru traffic than they might normally use. Daytime travel will be on rough, milled pavement surfaces. Please slow down, watch for signs, heed directions of flaggers, and use caution.

Once paving is complete, traffic changes could continue for several days as crews complete final pavement markings and other work.

The project has been scheduled at night to lessen traffic impacts on the highly-traveled highway but traffic issues are still likely, especially in the early evening or morning hours closest to rush hour. Motorists should plan for delays or adjust their travel accordingly.

The highway improvement project is being done by Mountain Enterprises, Inc., under a $996,619.65 low-bid Transportation Cabinet contract.

Road work schedules may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Motorists are asked to drive with caution to protect themselves and workers when traveling.
