UPDATE: KY 250 in McLean County to Close Next Week for Sinkhole Repair
Roadway should reopen within 24 hours
MADISONVILLE, Ky. (July 5, 2024) – Kentucky Transportation Cabinet personnel recently discovered a void or sinkhole under a portion of KY 250 near the 6.7 mile marker in McLean County. That sinkhole had caused a hole to open in the roadway above it, forcing the KYTC to take steps next week to correct the damage.
Engineers found that the sinkhole under the roadway appears to be linked to a nearby drainage tile. Water being discharged from that tile seems to have created the void, which triggered the sinkhole.
The ongoing drainage issue will be addressed on Tuesday when the road is already closed to repair the sinkhole.
The hole is currently covered by a metal plate so that KY 250 can safely remain open until work can begin. Engineers believe that once the roadway and tile are repaired, the problem will be solved.
