Traffic Changes for Bobcat Blvd as Betsy Layne Entrance Safety Project Progresses

Traffic to utilize new connector off US 23 starting July 9

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (July 5, 2024)The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 12 announces traffic changes along US 23 near Betsy Layne High School in Floyd County that are designed to enhance safety and improve traffic flow.

Effective Tuesday, July 9, 2024, traffic will be directed to utilize the newly-constructed connector road to access Betsy Layne High School and Bobcat Blvd. The previous entrance, at the bottom of the hill from the school, will be permanently closed.

"This new connector is a key infrastructure improvement that provides safer sight distances and a more streamlined traffic flow, especially in this vital school zone area," stated Chief District Engineer Mary Westfall-Holbrook. "Rerouting traffic through the new connector will reduce congestion, minimize the risk of crashes, and offer a smoother, more efficient route for students, parents, and faculty traveling to and from Betsy Layne High School."

The project is projected to be complete this fall. We appreciate the cooperation and patience of the public during the construction phase and encourage all motorists to follow the new traffic patterns. Signage has been updated along US 23 to guide drivers through the new connector route.
