Union County EMA to Install KY 923 Flood Gate on Thursday

Installation is part of a routine inspection and should be completed by noon

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (June 25, 2024) Union County EMA will be installing the flood gates on KY 923 (Old Providence Road) in Sturgis on Thursday, June 27 as a part of a routine annual inspection, forcing a temporary closure of the roadway at the flood wall.

According to the EMA, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers requires at least one of the city's gates to be installed annually as part of a routine inspection of the flood wall around the city of Sturgis.

Crews plan to begin installing the gate at around 8 a.m. and hope to have the roadway reopened by noon.

There will not be a marked detour, but motorists can easily bypass the flood gate by using KY 109
