Project to Replace KY 1862 Bridge at Mayking in Letcher County Begins Next Week

Closed to traffic during construction, June 24 through late August

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (June 18, 2024)  A highway improvement project to replace the KY 1862 bridge at Mayking starts next week in Letcher County. Work will require a temporary road closure at the construction site through late August.

Beginning Monday, June 24, contractors will barricade the bridge on KY 1862 (at milepoint 1.3) that carries traffic across the North Fork of the Kentucky River between Dye Addition and KY 3410 near U.S. 119. The bridge will be demolished and replaced by a new two-lane structure.

During construction, the bridge will remain closed and all traffic can follow a short detour using KY 1862 (Thornton Road), KY 3410, and US 119.
