Highway Striping Begins Today

Be aware of mobile operation on state highways

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (May 20, 2024) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to begin striping operations across the entire 11 county area of District 2 beginning today, May 20.

Four different crews will apply new white and yellow stripes to over 3,400 miles of state highway starting in the south western side of the district.

The crew with the most miles will be placing the four-inch yellow stripe, which will cover 1,679.28 miles of state highway. They will begin today in Hopkins County, where they will paint 127.6 miles of roadway before moving on to Caldwell, Christian, Muhlenberg, McLean, Ohio, Hancock, Davies, Henderson, Union and Webster counties in order.

The six-inch white line crew will start the week in Caldwell County, then move on to cover Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Christian, McLean, Ohio, Hancock, Daviess, Henderson, Union and Webster counties. This crew will paint 824 miles of roadway during this process.

Six-inch yellow lines will begin in Muhlenberg County before progressing to Christian, Caldwell, Hopkins, Webster, Union, Henderson, Daviess, Hancock, Ohio and McLean counties. Just over 806 miles of state highway will be painted by this crew.

Four-inch white lines make up the smallest mileage, at only 145.22 miles. That crew will begin in Muhlenberg County before moving on to Christian, Caldwell, Hopkins, Webster, Union, Henderson, Daviess, Hancock, Ohio and McLean counties.

Striping times vary depending on the amount of miles a crew must complete in each county and the weather. On average a crew can paint around 40 miles of white or 60 miles of yellow per day.

Motorists should be alert for slow moving equipment in work zones. This will be a mobile operation with no marked detours.
