Milling & Paving Resumes along I-24 Work Zone at 29 to 33mm in Livingston County on Friday, May 10
Bridge and roadway rehab work creates 4 mile work zone
PADUCAH, Ky. (May 9, 2024) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to resume milling, paving, and roadway rehabilitation work along a section of Interstate 24 in Livingston County with a traffic shift on Friday, May 10, 2024.
This milling, paving, and roadway rehabilitation project along I-24 runs from mile point 29.54 near the Tennessee River Bridge, extending eastward to mile point 33.664 near the Cumberland River Bridge, a distance of 4.12 miles. This work zone connects with a work zone at the 29 mile marker for rehabilitation work on the I-24 Tennessee River Bridge.
On Friday, westbound traffic will move to the right-hand or driving lane within the work zone to allow milling crews to work along the passing lane.
Eastbound motorists should be alert for a paving crew placing a base course of asphalt along the eastbound lanes from about 4 a.m., CDT, to about 2 p.m., Friday.
The project includes milling, base repairs, asphalt paving, and guardrail upgrades. The contractor plans to complete base courses of asphalt paving to allow the work zone lane restrictions to be removed for Memorial Day and July 4th Holiday travel.
This work zone includes a 55 mile-per-hour speed limit, enhanced enforcement presence, and interactive signage to alert approaching motorists to traffic backups. The interactive message boards will operate in connection with the Tennessee River Bridge work zone.
When lane restrictions are in place for construction activities, area commuters should consider a self-detour via U.S. 62 between U.S. 62 Eddyville-Kuttawa Exit 40 and U.S. 62 Calvert City Exit 27, to avoid potential delays.
Base repair work and other construction activities may require some occasional overnight closures to be announced as the project progresses through the summer. KYTC District 1 and the contractor will attempt to provide timely updates when there are substantial changes to traffic configuration.
Jim Smith Contracting of Grand Rivers is the prime contractor on this $6,653,701 highway rehabilitation project. The target completion date is August 1, 2024.
