Resurfacing Project on KY 18 (Burlington Pike) in Boone County Begins Sunday, May 12

Motorists should expect overnight lane closures

COVINGTON, Ky. (May 7, 2024) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of a resurfacing project on KY 18 (Burlington Pike) scheduled to begin Sunday, May 12, in Boone County.

Crews will be working on KY 18 from west of KY 842 (Houston Road) (14.5 mile point), to Girard Street (16.08 mile point), a distance of 1.42 miles.

Crews will begin addressing base failures in the project area on Sunday, May 12. This portion of the project is expected to take one to two weeks. Motorists should expect variable lane closures overnight between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. All lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. Message boards are in place to inform motorists of the upcoming work.

Weather permitting, the contractor will begin milling/paving the project area at the end of May/early June.

The project will improve safety on KY 18 with newly paved lanes, thermoplastic striping and a new traffic radar detector system at intersections throughout the project.

Project updates will be provided via our District 6 Roadshow and social media accounts linked below.

The $1,001,344.50 resurfacing project was awarded to Riegler Blacktop, Inc., of Florence, KY. The project is expected to be completed June 30, 2024.

This project is the first of two resurfacing projects taking place on KY 18 this year. The second project, from Girard Street to KY 1017 (Turfway Road) will focus on concrete resurfacing and sidewalk/ramp improvements. KYTC will advise on social media ahead of the second project beginning.

The date, time, and duration of work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Motorists can get Northern Kentucky road construction updates on the District 6 Roadshow. Follow KYTC District 6 on Facebook or Twitter.
