KYTC District 1 Eclipse Traffic at 10:45 a.m., CDT
Traffic congestion reported along I-24 westbound at Paducah
PADUCAH, Ky. (April 8, 2024) – Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) personnel are monitoring traffic along Interstate 24 and other major routes across the 12 District 1 counties as visitors filter in for the Total Solar Eclipse that arrives in Kentucky just before 2 p.m., CDT.
Traffic has been heavy, but moving nicely. We are observing a slowdown for I-24 westbound between the 13 an 14 mile marker. There have been a couple of slowdowns along I-24 westbound between Exit 11 and Exit 4 at Paducah this morning - similar to what you might experience driving through a major city during commuter hours.
We plan to issue traffic reports every couple of hours through the day.
KYTC personnel are stationed at key locations around the region to assist with traffic as people head home this afternoon. A mobile command post is monitoring traffic cameras along I-24.
Motorists are advised to carry water and snacks to be prepared for heavy traffic expected as the totality phase of the eclipse ends. Bring along some patience for the trip home as some delays are likely.
