Preliminary work on the westbound bridge under way
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 15, 2024) – A contract has been awarded on a preventative maintenance project for the I-64 Bridges over the Kentucky River in Franklin County.
Preliminary work on the westbound I-64 bridge has begun, requiring a right shoulder closure. The preventative maintenance includes steel and joint repairs, concrete patching, and adding a protective coating to each bridge’s concrete driving surface. These measures will aid in extending the life of the bridge.
A closure of KY 1659/Glenns Creek Road will be required to provide contract crews with safe access as construction progresses. Lane closures on I-64 will also be required. Details will be shared with motorists before road and lane closures.
The bridges were built in 1963 and carry I-64 over the Kentucky River and KY 1659 in Franklin County. Motorists should heed all warning signs and use caution when traveling through the work zone.
DeLong Construction, Inc., was awarded the $3,665,073 contract. Construction is scheduled for completion this fall.
