Public invited to review and comment on preliminary roadway designs
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 13, 2024) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) will hold a public meeting March 27 to update residents and gather input on preliminary designs for the KY 53 highway improvement project in Oldham County.
The meeting will be an open-house event held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at La Grange Presbyterian Church, 1901 Prestwick Drive, La Grange, Ky. Those who are interested may drop in any time to review the previously selected design, receive handouts containing project information, and fill out comment sheets. Representatives from KYTC and the engineering design consultant will be in attendance to answer questions.
The purpose of the project is to improve safety and accessibility along KY 53 from KY 22 (Ballardsville Road) to Zhale Smith Road near Interstate 71.
At a 2008 public meeting, engineers presented residents and roadway users with three different designs and sought feedback. The public selected an option that included roadway widening with curve adjustments north of Blakemore Lane and a proposed new route between Blakemore Lane and KY 1315 to the south.
The March 27 public meeting will review these options, which are still being considered as designers evaluate their benefits, costs, and impacts, as well as the existing conditions, environmental constraints and community perspectives.
An online survey will be made available following the public meeting. Over the next year, the final design phase will take place after the consideration of public feedback.
All written comments will become part of the official meeting record. Once compiled, the meeting record and supporting documentation will be made available for review and copying only after an Open Records Request has been received and approved. All Open Records Requests must be submitted to the Transportation Cabinet, Office of Legal Services, Transportation Office Building (200 Metro St, Frankfort, KY 40622), or via kytc.openrecords@ky.gov.
