Load Limit Lowered on Howell Rd in Hickman County
Bayou de Chien Bridge reduced to 3-ton load limit
PADUCAH, Ky. (Feb. 14, 2024) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) has reduced the load limit to 3-tons on a section of Howell Road in Hickman County.
The Bayou de Chien Bridge is posted with a 3 ton load limit after an inspection crew found deterioration of the bridge substructure. This bridge is along Howell Road (CR 1141) about 1/2 mile north of the KY 2209/Gwynn Road intersection and immediately south of Hodge Road.
The 3 ton limit restricts the bridge to vehicles no heavier than an SUV or an unloaded pickup truck. The 3 ton load limit has been posted at each end of the Bayou de Chien Bridge. Commercial Drivers License (CDL) holders are responsible for obeying bridge weight postings.
KYTC District 1 engineers will assist the Hickman County Road Department to determine if the bridge can be repaired or should be replaced.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is responsible for inspecting all bridges on public roadways in the Commonwealth. All Kentucky bridges get a detailed inspection every two years, with long-span lake and river bridges getting an additional walk-through inspection annually.
